Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings. Then to top it off, the (admittedly non-canon) Pokémon stage show reveals a bunch of things about the anime characters, such as Ash and Misty having feelings for one another, and Giovanni being confirmed to be Ash's dad.TheLastSwordsman Fandoms: Pocket Monsters | Pokemon - All Media Types, Pocket Monsters | Pokemon (Anime) Then you have other micro-theories tossed around that he's estranged due to cheating on Delia with Ariana (or vice versa) with whom he had Silver (which although his paternity of Silver is confirmed, Ariana's maternity of him is still unconfirmed if not extremely likely given shared features and common sense). Their tryhard nature means they always follow Ash to try prove themselves to Giovanni and rectify their screw ups, so essentially Giovanni scored the ultimate babysitting/PI service for monitoring his secret love child.Īnd to clarify the Giovanni dad theory for those not in the know, it was theorised for a long time that Delia's reluctance to talk about Ash's dad, shared physical features, Giovanni's backstory about coming from Pallet Town and working in the nearby Viridian, and the Team Rocket theory above, all played into Giovanni being the most likely candidate for Ash's dad. And when they don't, they're good-hearted so they won't go overboard and harm Ash in any meaningful way. But because they're incompetent, they almost always fail. They'll constantly try to defeat Ash and Co, and swipe his Pikachu. To tack onto this, the theory is that Giovanni knows they're the perfect blend of incompetent, tryhard, and good-hearted deep down. They're stuck in a kind of internal exile, but at least on paper they could win their way out of it and come back in from the cold, and he can provide certain levels of support for their mission without it being questioned. He gave them a task, and as long as that task is still technically ongoing, they haven't failed he can't move them on to better things, but he doesn't have to punish them either. But he needs to be mindful of how the rest of the organization, career criminals who expect failure to be punished, would react. He wants to put them on other, more pressing tasks. Giovanni wants them to succeed and come home. They keep their uniforms pressed and keep delivering that whole "prepare for trouble" speech with the same resolve they did when they first got roped into that bullshit. They could go independent (or even go straight) and have a better quality of life than what Team Rocket is giving them, but they don't. They've been on a scut detail for years of relative time, out of the spotlight and out in the sticks, having to watch other people get better opportunities and promotions while they basically have to live like hobos, and they're still sticking it out. And they do it all while needing to work side jobs and minor heists in order to get the resources to build their gizmos and feed themselves.Īnd most pressingly they're mad loyal.

Jessie has shown herself to be a soft manipulator and social engineer of high caliber, James seems to be able to talk about any wild pokemon into doing anything, Meowth gives them a unique inside track into both tame and wild pokemon behavior, and collectively they can slam together anything from weird vacuum weapons to full on giant robots on short notice. Giovanni seems to be stuck between knowing that Jessie and James are really top notch employees and the fact that he can't pull them off the Ash's Pikachu issue without it being a loss of face for both them and Team Rocket as a whole.
